WidemanPoetry
My Beloved
I want to be the dawn that breaks your day
The shadow, at noon to ever kiss your blessed feet
If only I would be the sunset; paint you a beautiful ending
Or the night to hold your dreams, so you’d ever cherish me.
I wish to be this and I want to be that
But I am only me, my love, and you love me for who I am.

BED OF ROSES
Blast me. Me? Who am I? I have never had to tell my name to anyone. Or at least I can’t recall if I’ve ever had to. It’s not my fault, though. No. You don’t just go shouting your name to all and sundry without a cause. Worse, I am just another black face in the street. Black and common like the next ten thousand guys. And when that name sounds Korean, yet I’m as black as you and you, it doesn’t help the slightest bit. Or does it? Tell me, you black reedy crone. Tell me and stop gazing at me like I am sporting the devil’s horns!
